We are just back from 600+ miles of towing to and from our latest destination..
The truck ran fine, and handled the towing duties with ease.
It rarely needed to downshift.. only on steep grades, and even then I just held
it around 3000 rpms at 55 or so, then once cresting the hill it would upshift
and we'd cruise at 65 - 68 just lugging along..
Gas mileage wasn't great.. expected that.. the 325BHS is fairly large.. I averaged 8.5 while towing.
My Durango only got 9.5 - 10 while towing our old camper (a 26 foot bunkhouse, under 5K pounds)
We only have one more trip planned this season.. up to Maine for Fryeburg
fair week at a little campground in Brownfield.. about a 2 hour drive 1 way, and
none of that drive is on highways.. It's an easy trip from a towing perspective.
In the spring, I'll see what sort of bonus I get at work and tax refund.. if I
can swing a Duramax by trading the V10 in, I'll certainly be looking at that
option but for now I'm happy with the V10 performance..
Oh..and the 325BHS? We too LOVE it!! Has the optional giant bunks in the back,
the kids are loving the extra space compared to the coffin bunks we had before.
