That's interesting. It would be impossible for me to pull the release handle unless the jacks were lowered enough to take the weight off the hitch.
They were touching and apparently the system was in a neutral position with regard to forward/back tension. I have a hard tonneau cover and the rails are an inch above the stake pockets. I have about 6" clearance and when I pulled the release, the 5er rolled back a bit and came down enough to rest on the tonneau rails. Just scuffed the paint a little. Don't specifically know why the B&W released but I shouldn't have done it anyway until it was secured.
