If a fifth wheel trailer were to disconnect from the TV it will most likely be from a hitch failure. As such if the breakaway cable is attached to the hitch the trailer brakes will not be activated.
Same will happen with a bumper pull trailer as most bumper pulls that separate from the TV is a hitch failure.
