I've had more problems with low tree limbs and low hanging telephone/cable lines in my neighborhood - roads off the main drag. I've gotten the County Commissioner to cut the tree limbs overhanging the road and the telephone company to pull the lines tight. On a secondary road, like a subdivision road, the National Electrical Code calls for 14' clearance. Sometimes it can be a problem finding out the right person to talk to at the phone company (once you do, save the number). Note that not all counties or cities subscribe to the same code, but most do.
You will also find low overpasses on some back roads, but they are always marked. Just keep an eye out for the signs.
