Broken Shower! Happened to You????

Has this happened to you? Bought camper new 17 months ago. Florida for 3 months and many weekend trips. The drain developed cracks and then a chunk fell out. Repair shop sent pictures to Jayco and we are awaiting their answer. Two year warranty and hopefully they cover it! :h

  • We owned a KZ Spree Escape and on our first long trip from NY to FL the shower drain cracked and allowed water to flow into the underbelly of the trailer. We actually didn't notice it right way but after a few days water began dripping from the underbelly and that's when I noticed the bulge. I put a hole in the underbelly material and water began pouring out. The shower drain P tube had to be replaced, a supported added and all of the insulation was replaced after the area was allowed to dry. We had the trailer for five years after that and no repeat of the problem which was fixed under warranty.
  • As a lot of you have said, no support under the tub is a way of cutting cost.
I agree but, if Jayco covers it under there 2 year warranty, as they should, it ends up costing them more than those extra couple of braces would have cost in the first place! :h
  • Howdy!

Our is not that bad but we do have cracks in our 2014 Heartland Cyclone 4000. We discovered that under the tub/shower area is completely void no flooring what so ever. CW made and attempt to put supports under near it but it didn’t work. We wanted the tub replaced and Heartland refused stating it could not be done. They stated the tub was placed in the RV and the walls built around it. We ended up towing it to Elkhart, IN at our expense to have Heartland repair it after CW stated to us “ We can’t fix it to your satisfaction”. Heartland did had the tub manufacturer come out and do more support work underneath the tub and repair the tub. Problems is the cracks are back and we are now out of warranty. So good luck.

My guess is that a couple of bucks in 2x4s/support would have prevented this issue.

You're correct. But, that was a couple bucks the manufacturer saved.
It's all about profit and quantity built. Not quality and customer satisfaction.
  • I have read numerous threads where various rigs seem to lack sufficient support under the shower pan. When this gets fixed you might ask them to place some additional support under the pan so that you don't get a repeat when the rigs out of warranty. My guess is that a couple of bucks in 2x4s/support would have prevented this issue.
  • My drain cracked from poor support. I think they use an ax to do the hidden carpentry.
  • Poorly support underneath. They should absolutely authorize a repair. Until it is fixed, I guess I'd slap a bunch of Eternabond tape over the opening and along the cracks. Worth a try anyway.

Whatever you do, obviously don't use it until you seal it up somehow...water underneath will cause you a whole bunch of grief.

    good luck with it.
