Bunkhouse Model Ideas

I'm hoping you guys can give me suggestions on some moderate size quad bunk models I should check out. I'm buying used and I'm not opposed to something up to maybe 15 years old. I had originally planned on a travel trailer but I'm leaning more towards a fifth wheel now, in part cause it saves a little on overall length.

My big dilemma is space vs length. My wife has really doubled down on wanting something with a separate quad bunk room for the kids (we have three). But we like to dry camp in remote areas and most bunk FW models I see are way too big for my liking.

Any models I should check out? I don't really want to go much over 30' if possible. I could go slightly longer but I prefer not to go much over that.

I know buying used can complicate things too since you're limited by what's available. One model I found that I like is a Copper Canyon 297FWBHS, but I haven't found one in my area for a price I want to pay.
  • Thought I'd be able to help you, but our BH is 35' and has 2 full bunks and a loft in back. Not saying it will be easy to find what your looking for, but you may have to consider something longer than 30'.
  • Thanks for the model ideas - I'm checking into them.

Does anybody have any experience with shipping an RV that was purchased at long distance? As I'm searching for these different models on RV Trader, I'm noticing that most of them are located back east and it isn't too feasible for me to go on a cross country drive to pick one up. I found some companies that do it but I'm just curious about personal experiences and what sort of costs might be involved.

Sorry, no I don't. I did a Google search for V-nose CrossRoads 2010 Travel Trailer, nothing came up either.

But, at lest I shared an idea for you to consider!

mtofell1, my Outback is 35 1/2 feet from tip-to-tip. With my truck I'm a total of about 57 feet. REALLY! Towing is no problem after after the second time out!
  • I'm in the exact same boat looking for a med/small 5th. I also went away from the TT due to the length. I just can't imagine hauling a 37' trailer.

Here are a few I've narrowed my search to:

    Outback 302BH
    Jayco Eagle 29.5fbds
    Cougar XLite 29RBS
Wildcat 312bhx (also a few other similar ones - check the FR website)

I've spent hours sifting through the manufacturer's websites and then searching the models online to find prices and availability. At least it's something to do while waiting for the weather to warm up so I can go camp.
  • Do you know the model on that trailer? The thing that's pushed us towards FWs is the shorter total length. The v nose over the tongue in this model looks like it may be more efficient in length compared to some trailers, though. Most of the quad bunk trailers I've seen are 30' models but in reality are more like 34' long. Throw that behind out crew cab truck and that's a long setup. Maybe this one would split the difference.
  • I know you are considering 5er's but here's some photos we took when we were considering a Cruiser Travel Trailer in 2010. (The photo was taken in March). We REALLY wanted to buy this camper, but we were still too upside down on our Springdale.

It is a V-nose over the tongue, it had 4 bunks in the front and master bed room in the back. On the "driver side" of the trailer, it had an opening to the outside, and access to storage under the bottom bunk. The bunk could also be lifted up for taller storage items.

It was a really cool trailer. I've not seen one like this since. But maybe there's a used one out there somewhere:
