We like our electric fireplace. When we camped in Colorado in May, the fireplace heated the living/kitchen area without having to use the gas furnace. The nights got down to lower 30's while we were there which we loved for sleeping but in the morning when we got up, we would just turn on the fireplace to knock the chill down. It heated that area rather quickly which was nice.
We don't have awning slides but have often wondered about them as we sometimes get leaves, sticks etc. from trees on the slide roof which are a pain to clean off.
As for deciding today...just make sure you have looked at everything and are making the best decision for you. Sit in the unit for a while...pretend to live in it. Make sure you can be happy with the floor plan. Can you move around in the bath or would you be able to use the toilet, brush your teeth and shower at the same time? These things may seem silly but we had a TT that we could literally do all 3 at the same time if we chose. When we first got the TT, I didn't think it would be a big deal but after stumbling into the toilet a few times trying to get out of the tiny tub shower and also hitting a hip on the sharp counter that stuck out halfway across the bath, I decided it wasn't going to work. We traded for a FW with better bath set up and bigger shower.
Another thing to consider with floor plan...if you plan to take long trips and stop to eat/rest at rest stops or parking lots, my opinion is (some others say it doesn't matter) make sure the floor plan you pick has access to the refrigerator and bath without the need to open the slide (even partially). I think it is just easier that way...more convenient.
We looked at several options/brands when choosing ours and I did research online about each model we liked. Our decision came down to price. Being vacationers and occasional weekenders vs full timers or seasonal campers, we chose what made more sense for our budget knowing that it would sit more than it was used but yet when we were using it, we could be as comfortable as at home. We have taken many weekend trips and one 2 week vacation since getting ours in April. I can honestly say, so far we love our unit and have enjoyed it very much. If it wasn't for a son getting married next month (destination wedding) we would be on another vacation right now as we normally go on a vacation in spring and fall.
Good luck! I hope you find the perfect unit for you and you enjoy camping as much as we do.
