Buying our first FW tomorrow-advice?

We are planning to purchase our first RV tomorrow! I think we'll get the Crossroads Cruiser 305sk. What should we expect tomorrow? It comes with a 2 + 5 warranty but I assume they'll try to sell us an extended warranty. The dealership is about an hour from our house and there is a Camping World about 20" from here. Should we get a warranty so that repairs can be made at Camping World? Camping World doesn't seem to specialize in Crossroads products. We like the dealership that we're buying it from and we could take it there if that's what's best. Do you think that the awnings over the slides are important? They can be added. We are thinking of adding a fireplace-is it worth $800?

As far as the pin, etc...for the truck/FW, should we have the dealership do it or shop around for better prices? Of course we are anxious to drive it home but are willing to do what you all suggest.

Thank you so much! This is all such an educating experience!

  • As to the fireplace, ours is a wonderful accessory when camping in colder weather (usually no lower than upper 30's at night). Once we get the coach warmed with the furnace we use the fireplace and other small electric heaters and electric blankets, and we usually do not need the furnace unless the temperature really drops during the night.

Good luck with your purchase. What an exciting time!
  • Personal opinions... Take the standard warranty. Warranty support on RV's is generally poor, so by the time it runs you you should have most early mistakes fixed and then you are on your own. Awnings over the slides are a very good thing, I would consider them mandatory. I think a fake fireplace in an RV is silly, and a real fireplace would be a bit of a hazard... You can get that "burning log" video to watch if you want a fake fire to keep you company. I would have the hitch installed by some place that is expert at installing hitches - if the dealership has competent technicians, I would get them to do it and use it as a bargaining chip for a discount on the hitch or the install fee.

Have fun, getting a new RV is a real kick!
