- transamz9ExplorerIn my new truck I ended up with the receiver that goes into the turn over ball in the back position with the uprights in the forward most holes but leaning to the rear. I think I could turn the uprights around to the forward position but I'm going to wait until I pull with it first to see what clearance I do have on a tight back-up.
The new truck is a '13 crew cab short bed 3500 SRW Ram. - AZ_T_TExplorerAll the way back. I can't tell that it makes a difference towing so I figure why not have the extra clearance between FW and truck cab.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIII don't think the air bags are going to change what the weight is on the rear axle. The weight is still sitting on the axle, albeit through the air bags.
Mine is about an inch in front of the rear axle and my 2800 lb. pin weight adds about 120 lbs. to the front axle. This is on a long bed dually. - nremtp143ExplorerMine is all the way up and all the way back. I tow with a long bed. Mine is back because of my pin box bike rack. Without the airbags installed. it only took 80 pounds off the front axles. I have yet to weigh it with the bags on and inflated. It still tows like a dream!
- pointrowExplorerOn mine it is forward because I want as much weight on the front axle as I can transfer.
Ext Cab, Standard bed {6.5 ft.
good luck
pointrow - Tango__AE7UIExplorerMine is set all the way forward and on the bottom set of holes.
The center of the kingpin is about 1" behind the axle but on the 3500 SRW it tows fine. - goducks10ExplorerI have the Patriot but it's the same for setup. We have a long bed so I put it all the way to the front. I didn't really notice anything different from any of the settings. I only have an 1800lb pin so maybe that's why.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIWith our long bed dually we have the hitch set so the pin is just a touch in front of the rear axle when the toyhauler is hooked up.
- jamwayExplorerWe have a long bed with the hitch set all the way to the front. I tried it all the way back and with the trailer the front axel had 50 lbs. less than without the trailer
- greendeExplorer IIMine is in the middle. Why? I have a long bed 3500 DRW and do not need the extra turning space. My impression of the choices you have in adjustment is to fine tune the weight on or behind the axles. Certainly if one had a short box truck and the 5er was close to hitting, moving it back would prevent damage but I don't see that happening a lot.
This is just my opinion. Someone with real knowledge may chime in.
