I'm in the same boat as your are. I have a 2012 ram 2500 with a turnover ball. 6'5" measured from the back of the cab to the inside of the tailgate.
Most people say I don't need a slider hitch because of the extended pin box and rounded corners.
I haven't purchased the 5er yet but probably will tomorrow. So kinda in a jam about the hitch.
I put in the regular non sliding companion. I bought a cougar 330rbk and I had to back into my drive and at one point I was past 90 degrees with room to spare. - drfifeExplorerMy B&W Companion is set at the most rearward position.
On my 2012 GMC 3500HD SRW SB it is directly over the rear axle. - laknoxNomad

I have the short bed ford f250. My fifth wheel is a 2010 crossroads cruiser 30sk. I read that there are 3 horizontal mounting positions, which one do you all use with the short bed.
Thanks again
My Companion is set as far forward as it will go and as high it will go. Even then, the king pin centerline is only about 1.75" ahead of the axle centerline. Frankly, I'd like a little more. I have about 8" bed rail clearance because I like to camp off-road and =need= that clearance, even though it gives me a bit of a nose-high attitude.

Thanks again - drfifeExplorerI don't buy insurance if I don't need it.
- glazierExplorer III have the Companion Sliding hitch, just in case I need it. The quality is typical B&W ( great) it is a very heavy hitch. The sliding latch did not work well at first, I have since spoke with B&W and adjusted it. This is a very quite sliding hitch, no difference in it and regular Companion going down the road. I have yet to need it with my trailer, but if towing with a standard bed it's cheap insurance to have. I like B&W products, and this hitch does not change my opinion of them, great company, wonderful support.
- transamz9ExplorerHave you ever hit your truck pulling a bumper pull trailer?
I have a B&W 3500 no slider and a 2013 Ram 6.5' bed and have no problems going anywhere. - laknoxNomad

The truck in my sig pulls my FW just fine and I can NOT hit my trailer, right or left, at full lock, going forward. ALL will hit going backwards; slider just gives you a bit more room. I understand, it will be hard to tell if you'll hit without having a hitch, so you face a decision. You might try and find a local with a Companion and let you try it.
Lyle - drfifeExplorerI tow my 2013 Excel Winslow with a GMC 3500HD SRW standard bed (6.5') and use a B&W Companion non-sliding hitch.
I have had no issues or problems. I have towed 20K miles with the lash-up. Have hitched and unhitched nearly 150 times.
I have no need for a sliding hitch with my truck, trailer and B&W combo.
