ependydad I hope you are now a happy Camper!
I'm sorry but IMHO just because it's "rated" more than the B&W I would never have changed out to the Andersen. Just look at them side by side anyone can see the B&W would hold up to your 21K RV as in they don't magically break at 20,001#. I would tow a 24K RV with that B&W anyway before an Andersen.
Pull test? You actually did a pull test with the B&W? I see NO reason to do so since the 1" thick jaws can easily be seen fully surrounding the kingpin when the handle is latched. I think doing a pull test on an Andersen makes about as much sense.
You for sure did not have bed deflection with the B&W since it has filler pcs to fill in the corrugation of the bed and transfer the fore and aft forces from the base directly to the cross rails and then to the frame. Your new Andersen WILL deflect the bed on hard braking and accelerating.
Like I said I am wishing you the best but see ZERO need to do what you did.
I know you know this but fail to mention, those same filler shims apply to the Andersen, and have been reported doing so. IMO we should quit belaboring that point its senseless to keep it up.
The owners of the B&W also had to go thru these growing pains, before the shims. How many beds do you think were damaged by the B&W before they came up with those shims. Wouldn't this thread be better served instead of bashing the Andersen suggest the shims that cured the B&W problems.
