Have your son but a bakfilp cover for his truck and tie his pontoon boat down to the top no need to take hitch out.I do that all the time with mine and no promblem and no hitch removeal
Thanks . Thats certainly an option . He's actually done that with his old truck, when he came up to Montana to fish with me, although he has a soft cover, his old boat is just an 8 footer ,and it didn't bother the cover . He brings so much camping stuff ,there is no room in the bed :) with his new fifth wheel he won't need all that stuff.
They used to sell what was called an easy carrier or some name similar. What it is ,is a carrier that goes in a receiver hitch. It hauls the boat vertical, it folds down to load ,and then back up ,and pins to travel. I am in the process of fabricating a couple of them to use on the back of our fifth wheels to travel with . I met a fellow fishermen in Montana that carries his around with one , that he fabricated ,its seems to work well . Thats also an option to use in the receiver of our trucks.
