Cable question

I have a tv hookup in BR. If I connect a cable to it and put up antenna, I get "over the air" reception. If the campground has cable at the post with water/electric and I connect a cable from my fiver to that, should I be able to get cable broadcasts? Basically, does that "override" the antenna?

  • My 98 Cameo had such a switch. Your 02 certainly should. The only exception I know of is trailers equipped with a Winegard Distribution Center (a large black box with a bunch of push buttons on the front and a nest of connections on the back) which contains a booster that is automatically connected to the correct inputs.
  • Thanks for the input...not sure if mine has a "switch"...I'll need to check....it's a 2002 Montana 2955RL....
  • As stated there should be a switch near your TV where your antenna, cable hookup and TV are connected. Usually an LED light on it shows when the antenna is on. Push this switch and LED goes off indicating the TV is now connected to the outside cable connector.

You will then have to use your TV's menu to tell it to scan cable channels instead of over the air antenna channels.

This button on your TV ANTENNA WALL COVER PANEL is the override. When the light is 'ON' it uses the OTA ROOF MOUNT antenna. When 'OFF' it uses the CABLE TV INPUT signal from the camp ground.

That is the way it works in my two trailers at any rate...

Of course after I have selected which ANTENNA INPUT to use I have to go to the TV MENU and select the proper input ANTENNA or CABLE and scan in the channels before I can view them...

  • My TV menu setup has a selection for cable, air (antenna), and also input, HDMI or TV. Go to your TV menu and make the selection for cable or TV.
  • I have separate connections, for OTA, and for cable, plus a sat connection, for my bedroom tv.

You may need to move your coax to a second connection, to work with your outside cable tv hookup. You have to set tv to cable and rescan also. This is how mine is setup.

  • If you are talking about connecting to your trailer's outside connector, maybe.

First make sure to switch off your antenna power at the wallplate near your TV. This switches from antenna to cable. If the cable feed is analog you can now do a channel scan on your TV. There may be a menu item on your TV to switch from antenna to cable.

If the cable feed is digital most likely the campground will make a set-top box available.
