To anyone wondering if it's a Zombie thread, as I mentioned previously here: I'm trying not to lose sleep over my driver license class; my husband said "play ostrich". I was looking for some factual information, so I went looking in archives and found this one. 8-)
To Broccoli1 and all posters: Thanks for all replies & suggestions.
My living quarter horse trailer does not meet definition of 5th wheel
travel trailer.
I picked up a new 2014-2015 Commercial Driver Handbook. On the 2nd page, it shows picture examples of what you can drive with various Calif. driver license classes. On page 1-7, a flow chart shows "Determining Class of CDL Required". The definition for "Class A with Restriction "88" - I'm guessing is their Noncommercial Class A license. More detailed info: With a vehicle weighing 4,000 lbs. or more unladen, you may tow a: livestock trailer exceeding
10,000 lbs. GVWR but not exceeding 15,000 lbs. GVWR if the vehicle is controlled and operated by a farmer, used to transport livestock to or from a farm, not used in commerce or contract carrier operations, and is used within 150 miles of the person's farm.
I'm leaning towards forgetting all words AFTER "not exceeding 15,000 lbs. GVWR." I'm hauling my LQ along with my horse to go horse camping, etc.
Who knows, I might try contacting the CHP/scales in Castaic, just for grins. Of course, I'd try using a public phone so not to be tracked..........8-)
