OK, thank you. We are looking at General Coach and Triple E. General Coach being marketed as good to -30c. Seen a few up north, around Grande Prairie during the winter, hooked up in RV sites.

Start with something generally well insulated already.

I've camped to -30C is my R7 rig but I've been doing this for some time and have modded the rig pretty good for cold weather camping.

Most campers are to "wimpy" to cold weather camp in an RV, takes some effort and for the most part I've yet to see a rig you could buy off the shelf that could handle it with out modifications. Everything from sealing holes in the floors to heat trace wire on the water and sewer lines just to start with.

Triple E 'touring' model is what you want ,heated compartments ,double pane windows .Manitoba built so they know cold,I had one and would of bought another but they stopped at 32' I think , and we wanted more room.

Yes, I have seen all manner of RV brands up north, with lots of modifications to them. Porches on the outside seem to be a must in the snowy locations. We are doing OK with our Okanagan, but would like a bit longer. But good build equals heavy tow!

I've heard that Triple E are good, I just can't seem to find a brochure that lists the insulation, and type of build, frame etc, like I can for the General Coach line up.

From memory
-frame double stacked several feet either side of axles
-touring came with shocks
-michelin ribs from factory
-every single pice of wood that could be replaced was bar coded , if you needed a new one it would match(seen a owner in Texas do just that)
pantry bigger then our Newmar -wife still laments 3 years later about how much she misses it.

triple E is still around doing small motorhome and oil field trailers (to live in)

Thanks for the info on the Glendales

Heartland bought the rights to the Titanium front cap design and produced a couple of models for awhile then dropped it. Glendale itself was just broken up.

Northern Lite still builds one of the nicest truck campers there is.

I know we exchanged posts in the other thread but here are the specs on ours:

2008 Corsair Excella Platinum 34.5 CKTS
Length: 35' 4"
3 slides, rear living room with island kitchen
Dry weight: 12,970 lbs
GVWR: 15,500 lbs
Hitch weight: 2,300 lbs per the brochure but it is more than 3,500 lbs loaded
Dual 7,000 lb axles with disc brakes and lube shackles

We looked at several Triple E Topaz Touring, Okanagan, and Citation Supremes in 2005 as well as toured both the Okanagan and General Coach factories. We found the General Coach units made the best use of space, were much brighter inside with the dual pane residential skylights, and had several better built features such as the ventilated attic space, etc. We stayed in our unit in Edmonton in April when it was -10 C and the unit was plenty warm with very little condensation inside.

We have spoken to several General Coach owners while camping and we have not heard of any major issues with their units. Any issues that they did have were quickly and relatively easily repaired. And several of them were repeat owners as well which said something to us. You will see several of them being used in Northern Alberta as accommodations for oil patch workers which is a pretty good testament to their cold weather abilities.

Travelaire was made by Glendale in Red Deer Alberta. Kustom Koach is also western Canadian built. All are now out of business but they were all good quality units.
