cancer is back

well, looks like we will lose our summer on Oregon coast also. January wife diagnosed with cancer. no camping in AZ. 4 operations, thought we were ready for Oregon coast. on follow up, found cancer has come back in 3 places. we will get a treatment plan
next wed. am pretty sure it will consist of radiation and chemo. we will be asking if we can still go camping, but, might have to take the right kidney.

will take any info about what to expect. this was all so sudden. never been sick before, turned 62, put in for retirement, and then this.
would love to put it off for 2 months, but am told it is aggressive.
anyway, we have 50 days of state parks on coast starting July 4. if interested, I can give dates so someone could get them
  • If your wife loves to kayak, I have a tip for you. My husband got a tow rope -- it is stretchy and has clips on both ends. He leaves it attached to his boat, and when my arm gets sore and needs a rest (a problem I've had ever since my mastectomy), he tows me for a bit. Then we unhook and I paddle on. He is in great health, and this allows us both to get out and enjoy nature. I had to get over the fact that I needed to accept help, and that other people may feel I look lazy. We have learned to make modifications in our lives so that we can continue to do the things we love.

I am praying for you and your wife. Cancer is a terrible disease that is just as hard on the caregiver as the patient.
  • I am so sorry to hear about your wife, there is an ever growing fellowship of folks that are free and considered survivors, so take heart.

We have been living with IT for nine year with our eldest. Thought it was uterine cancer, turned out to be stage 4 colon cancer, five operations and several rounds of chemo and nothing for 24+ months. In the middle of the DDs treatments, I developed prostate cancer. Forty days of radiation. Now a survivor.

I cannot talk(type) any more, I can feel the tension building. Keep Calm and Carry On, take trips when you can and study, study, study about what's new in treatment and what has helped slow the growth like diet.

    Sorry I have to go.
  • well we final got the news. about July 8 she will start 7 doses of chemo once every 3 weeks. then 6 weeks radiation 5 days a week. first time she is really scared.
thank you all for the support. we pray for comfort for each of you, thank you for sharing. if there is anything we can do for you, please le us know.

I hope that once she starts, it will be a little easier for her. also with 3 weeks between, might get to kayak, thank you Joyce.

    praying for comfort D.E.
  • Prayers sent. I hope you will be able to take some time during the 3 week breaks to go somewhere relaxing. Nature is soothing. Maybe spring for a couple of nights in a motel to avoid the work in prepping the RV.
  • So sorry bb. I've got you and your wife on my prayer list as well. Stay positive. Keep telling yourselves, and each other that your going to beat this, and keep planning trips! We look forward to hearing good reports! Hang in there, and wishing you smooth sailing after this bump in the road!
  • UPdate
had first round of chemo. 1st 2 days not bad, 2nd 2 days, pretty weak and a little nausea. next day doing quite well.
we did cancel part of Oregon, but we will be trying to do 18 days between treatments.
    thanks for any information
