Carriage Carri Lite 36KS3 - Opinions?

We are looking at a purchasing a 5th wheel to put on our RV lot in Georgia.

We've never had a 5th wheel. It will stay on the lot, so travel will not be an issue.

We are considering a 2006 Carri LIte 36KS3. Does anybody have any thoughts, tips or guidance as to this purchase?

Any known issues with this particular model? Anything we should be on the lookout for?
  • BarneyS,

For sure, both of our families know how to do it RIGHT! No wishing we had, making excuses, or faking it! Just pure heaven...

The 36' spent most of it's life parked on our acreage on a full hookup site we owned since 1987 in Northern Michigan in the 532,000 acre Manistee National Forest. It was our year around getaway retreat and we still own some of the acreage having sold some now as we are 75 years old. Even had the Amish locals build us a nice storage building so we didn't have to haul our toys back and forth from home. Used the vast area trails in the National Forest for ORV etc riding in warm months and snowmobiling etc in winter and the local lakes for fishing or just when us or our family members would come and or bring their RV units and toys too as I'd made 5 sites (3 full hookup sites) for them to use too. Used roughly 30 weekends a year for so many years.

Sounds almost exactly like my sons family campground up near Traverse City. I helped him build it several years ago and it is now where our trailer resides most of the time unless it is in Florida for the winter.

It has three 30amp full hookup sites plus one 30amp electric only site. A couple of the family have pop-ups and tents and they also have a place to camp.

He, like you has a very large storage building on site where he (and some of the rest of the family) keep all their toys - motorcycles, bicycles, snowmobiles, kayaks, sailboats, 4 wheelers, etc. Plus he has a large center section where he puts his trailer in the winter with water and a drain so he can use it.

We have a large family and it gets a lot of use. Right in the middle of the woods and so peaceful. Even have a very large black bear that we see occasionally but he has never entered the campground to our knowledge.

I was just up there last weekend and can hardly wait to go up again.

  • Carri-Lite quality is among the best ever. Assuming the unit has not been neglected and you like the layout go for it.

We've had our 32RS3 for 10 years now and never been sorry, had the unit in 13 states so far.
  • Carriage RV's are top of the line and the full timer's choice would still be in business if the originator back in 1968 and still owner of Carriage (Clarence T. Yoder) hadn't sold and finally retired. The new owner was an investment banker from Phoenix (Glenn Cushman) who'd made some very bad dumb business decisions which drove the company into deep debt and caused the bank to finally call in the loan and auction off the assets!
  • Seems like everyone has their own likes and dislikes as to floor plans and if you like the floorplan, buy it as it's you who will be using and enjoying it. Really none of anyone else's business as to what they personally like or want!
  • We had purchased 3 new Carriage 5th wheels since 1988 and still have one and it's not for sale even at 3 times the blue book listed value. Superb quality, construction, insulation, and so comfortable. Not one issue or leak or repair done or needed with any of them. 2 were Carrilites and one was the expensive top of the line 3 axle 36' full Carriage with an 18K GVWR. Was totaled in 2006 by falling tree going thru the top of the 36' when we weren't in it or we'd still have it because we simply loved it.

The Carriage 5th wheel was best plush cabin like setup we could have ever asked for! The other 2 are/were only used for pulling around the USA and Canada and for our 2-1/2 month wintering in Florida. If Carriages were still being made, we sure go buy another new one!

Is that the floor plan you like?

Yes. We like the split bathroom, and island kitchen. Is there a problem with this floor plan? It's not set in stone.
