They said the 2500 and 3500 have the same 11.5 rear axle and the main difference was the additional leaf springs on the 3500. Could either add air bags or additional springs to the 2500 and would have pretty much a 3500 capable 2500 as far as payload goes. Still wouldn't want to exceed the 13500 towing capacity or the 20000 combined rating.
I think everyone already knows the 2500/3500 Dodge/Cummins trucks uses the AAM 11.5" rear axle and has since '03 except for one poster who shoots from the hip much of the time.
