I've seen an camper axle damaged due to point loading the axle.- Me_AgainExplorer IIIAxle tubes are quite thin. A small end on a bottle Jack can crush the tube. On my last trailer I flipped the axles. The old spring pad made a great

Put new rubber on mine last year. Went to a tire shop. They did not have a jack capable of lifting by the frame or a bottle jack to lift under a bottom spring leaf.
Good thing I am prepared. Carry the 12 ton bottle jack & the necessary lumber to lift at spring or frame. Worked with the tire guy. Job done in less than an hour.
Did they give you a discount, since you provided some of the labor? :B

"No big deal to do it that way." Yeah, right. Have you ever tried to change a tire alongside the road by jacking the frame high enough to get that tire off the ground?
Well let's see......all the folks that offered their preferred method
will warranty any errors you - or the tire shop make, right?..:@
BEST answer for your question - especially since you felt the need to ask.....is check with your trailer and AXLE manufacturer - rather than folks on an internet forum...:R
Just 'cause they've done it their way - doesn't mean you or the tire shop will. It's not *their* trailer..:S..
BTW - call it CYA posters, but most trlr and axle mfgrs will recommend jacking under the frame. No big deal to do it that way.

dont want to bend axle
thanks
Depends on the type of axle system on the trailer...and if they know their business.
If your trailer has a torsion type suspension then have them jack from the main frame rails.
If the trailer has the std leaf spring suspension then they may jack under the main frame rails ......or under the axle tubes next to the U bolts.....or the U bolts themselves. The industry has done this for the 55 years I've been around trucks pulling commercially ...or just a RV.
I only deal with truck tire type dealers who know how to safely jack a trailer either with a lifting beam under the axles or two big floor hyd jacks under the frame rails just aft and just fwd of the farthest spring hangers.
I would ask first how they will jack your trailer. If they've been around for years jacking trailers then they may know much more than a RV newby......which we all were at one time. - DtankExplorer

Mine are AL-KO axles if that matters. - laknoxNomad

Change a single tire I jack on the U-bolt.
Major work I jack on the frame and support with four 12 ton jack stands under the frame.
My experience has been 2 floor jacks under each spring perch on 1 side; swap tires; do the other side. After 4 sets of tires, I have no axle issues. I also jack each wheel up every year to check and grease bearings the same way. (shrug)

So? Jack between the u-bolts, like I do, or use a floor jack with a large footprint, in the same place. If the axle's not going to bend with 1/4 the entire weight of the FW on the bolts, why would jacking there make a difference?

'Course we're likely talking a Lippert-made product, so who knows?
