Changing to LED's

I have a 2012 Fuzion 399. I would like to start the process for changing out to all LED's. Do I have to disassemble each and every light in my TH or can I just take one apart, see which bulb it requires and then count the number of fixtures? As you can see by the question, I am a newbie. Thanks and, by the way, I really appreciate the advice from all of you in spite of the occasional disagreement.

  • The 1210 panel lights are about 1/3 the light output per LED compared to the 5050 panels, that are 5mm X 5mm.

I bought 10 of the 24 LED 5050 panels for about $1.70 each at AliExpress.com including free shipping.

You can go to that website, search for 5050 LED panel, then click on "Free Shipping" and click on "List lowest to highest price".

The lowest cost places will show up first with offers to ship for free 100 lot probably around $1.50 each. Go a little further down the page or to the next page, start looking for lots of 10 or 5.

You can also click on a item, then look on the top of the page "Ad to favorites" and also look on the left side of the page, click on "View my store". You will be able to find several dozen vendors that sell the 5050 LED panels on the first search, and then you can see what else they sell.

I ended up buying a 3 LED 5050 light to replace my running light bulbs, cost about $4.50 for 10. This will reduce my running amperage through the headlight switch, and keep it from overheating, and also provide better light to all the running lights.

Things are really low cost through Aliexpress.com

I also found a bright 1 watt LED flashlight, with a pair of 18650 batteries in it. Really bright, and will run for about 10 hours before I need to recharge it.

    Fred.
  • Only real difficulty is choosing the light output you like. Also realize if any lights are on dimmer switches, you must use special LED Lights. Otherwise the hum will drive you batty!
  • I just changed over today and they are great! Exactly the same or more light and they came with the adapters to an 1156 base. JiminDenver gave me the info and he was right on the mark. Ten Warm White 48 1210 panels with adhesive on the back for $39.95. I had bought 2 bulb type replacements at an RV shop and tried them about a year ago and was very disappointed with them. They were dim, blueish light and almost $30 for two. Jim gave me a link that I'm having trouble getting to post. Maybe he'll chime in soon and give you the info. They were on e-bay and came from China. Took me about 15 minutes to replace all ten.
  • Hi,

I used Korbe's strategy--change the most often used lights. Ebay is a good source.
  • When we are in conserve mode. We don't use many lights anyway. We didn't feel the need to change out all of the bulbs, just the ones in strategic locations.
  • if the fixtures look the same, then I would think the bulbs would be the same also. so take one apart and look at the end of the bulb and look for the bulb number and when you order your led's order the replacement led's for that bulb number.
  • Not sure about disassembly, I just popped the covers off to see what type of lamp base and then counted the fixtures. Had a few incandescents that were spotlight type reading lamps that I found LEDs for at a local truck stop store. This Spring marks the start of our third camping season since our LED conversion, they are brighter, run cooler, and use a fraction of the power of the incandescents they replaced. An absolute must mod for those who tend (or prefer) to camp off the power grid. It felt like we nearly doubled our available stored 12Vdc power after the conversion was performed.
