Chucking?

Only good to 18k. Tri Glide was 21k. They still make the 21K TrailAir air bag pin box.

This is what they are offering know. Looks like it is similar to the triglide with less maintenance requirement and most likely a good solution as well. At least it addresses the chucking problem correctly.

Here is the root cause of chucking for those who are in tune with physics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damping_ratio

The trick is to create a criticall damped senerio between your truck and trailer. The best way is an TrailAir Triglide set up. The MorRyde is a second alternative. Minimized spring bounce on trailer and truck with improved shocks provide minimal critical dampening between the truck and trailer and is not as effective.

Please folks investigate on the Inet what causes chucking before you espouse your theory and cures. Investigation and some knowledge of physics is required so this discussion can be meaningful. Many times these types of discussions get convoluted and end up confusing. This subject is not that complicated but some how ends up that way. Also, it would be helpful to show a link supporting your theory/cure. Otherwise it could be taken as a "wise tale."

I have a question for you. In your opinion what is chucking. I have towed 5th wheels since '05 all over the northern part of this country and do not believe we have any chucking. Porpoising, as in up and down, yes, but no front to back in the pin connection. Thanks.

I had some chucking with what should have been a chuck-proof setup: F350 long-bed, B&W Companion hitch, Arctic Fox fiver (heavy pin weight, shocks, Mor-Ryde pin box), leveled. The culprit turned out to be that two of the clamps securing the hitch to the Ford pucks were a bit too loose. Tightened the castelated nuts one notch further and that cured the problem.

Cushioned pin boxes and hitches don't address the "Root Cause" of the chucking just mask it. Pin box or hitch should be the last step not the first. We have fixed the ride of the 5er, and have near zero chucking, only on some bad bridge surfaces.

We have never felt any chucking on either fifth wheels we have owned.

Recently I have read lots of posts on towing 5th wheels. many different experiences. I really appreciate reading them, and remedies that worked to solve negative issues and remedies that did not. I am especially impressed by those posts that acknowledge a given solution does not work for every situation. Thanks for the many constructive posts.
