Cleaning Evaporator Coil on Coleman AC Unit

Has anyone cleaned the evaporator coil on their roof mounted Coleman AC unit. If so, what did you use and how did you do it? Any thing I should be concerned about when doing it? Thanks.

Do you mean the part that gets cold (evaporator) or the part the gets hot (condensor)?
  • Simple Green is not recommended for aluminum. Coleman says to use 409. Put some towels down on the floor and some around the sides. I cut off a throw-away paint brush short, got a hose with a sprayer, then would spray 409, brush awhile, then rinse. Repeat several times.

If it is as dirty as mine, you will need to wash the roof off, too.

I bought a can of coil cleaner but it would have taken several cans. $$$
  • You can buy a spray bottle of evaporator cleaner at ACE HW and probably other places. My AC guy said Simple Green is ok too but wont work quite as well.
