Cleaning Gummed Up Generator

I have a gummed up generator/carburator. I would like to learn how to clean it and not have to pay the service fee at the dealers. Does anyone know of a good resource for learning how to do this? It's the typical Onan 4000 model.

Also, I need to replace the motor on my fuel pump station. Is this hard to do? Resources available for learning how to do this?

Thanks!
  • If it will still run, even if for just a moment, add SeaFoam to the fuel. It does a great job of cleaning out gummed up gas.
  • What kind of generator is it? If its onan they are micro-sealed carbs which means you cant clean them. They dont even offer a rebuild kit for them. You just have to replace. If you have the know how replacing one yourself only takes 15-20 mins.
