I remember buying our rig back in January of 04. And nobody mentioned to us about needing anything other than a Class C driver's license. Fast forward to when I started driving commercially, I found out that a towable trailer in California needs at least a Class A non commercial license for anything over 10000 pounds. My rig is at 11 5.
In my experience driving commercially, I have found out that there's all sorts of rules and regulations that we drivers are responsible for, that we were never informed or trained about during the commercial driving course for the license or the time spent with a driver trainer with the trucking company prior to going out on my own. It doesn't matter what anybody says weather at the company you work for or not, in the end you are responsible for that information or regulation.
Of course don't get me started about the environmental stuff that we have to deal with with the 2013 and newer private or commercial vehicles using the cow urine (DEF).
Anyway I wanted to be as well armed is possible when buying a new tow vehicle. They're already too expensive and with the governor's new tax on vehicles and registration it would be a costly mistake.
Thanks for everybody's input!
