Considering going from MH to 5th Wheel TH

Have never had a 5th wheel, but we're considering switching from MH to TH and taking the MC with us. I have read several of the topics regarding being new to TH and have gotten some very good input. Wonder if anyone has made a similar switch - or has thoughts on it.. Our current rig is a 41' Winnebago Journey DP. Previous was a 35' Winnebago Adventurer gas. Thinking I'd want a TH in the 35' to 40' range. Most times would be only me and the wife and a couple of critters. I figure I should be able to get a nice used TH and suitable truck for about 1/2 $$ as the Winnebago will sell for ($150 - $175K). Thought about getting a MC lift or trailer and keeping the MH, but there's the $$ savings I hope to get. Also, trailer is not a good choice because we also want to have an enclosed vehicle. Our trips usually last two to five weeks each and we take two to four big runs a year, plus half a dozen or so shorter trips of up to a week.
  • If you are just looking to bring 1 motorcycle along and don't need a huge garage, consider a quality 5'er that you can add a motorcycle lift to the back of. The living space is far superior in a regular 5'er.

There are big advantages to a TH (huge tanks, on-board gen, stout frame, tons of storage, lots of beds, etc) but you may not need them if you just want to bring 1 bike along.

MH is only good for 1 thing. You will now have a truck for other things. I have thought about going the opposite but won't because I would still need the truck. Don't need too many power plants to maintain.

    I agree...but still a bad comparison.

  • Thanks, Broccoli. That's kind of what we've been thinking both about the interior space and the $$. I'm looking in the 35'-40' foot range I think. I guess the towing truck will be picked after the TH. Doing a little TH looking, but have got to cool jets until the MH sells.

We had a bumper pull TH. then a 35' MH with a 26' enclosed and we just switched to. 43' 5th wheel and we just bought a new drw truck to pull the monster. I like the space inside the TH much better then the MH. And we are at about 1/2 the price

What are you at when you add the price of the truck? (apples to apples not apples to oranges)
