Did you notice a 'brightening' of the lights when you plugged into shore power? You can test at the battery via a multi meter; you should see an increase in voltage when the shore power is lit and the inverter starts charging your batteries.
If you don't have any voltage coming out of the inverter you have an issue, maybe a fuse blown.
