Hi all I have a B&W fifth wheel hitch and dexter axle on the fifth wheel, when reversing I’m now getting a creak followed by a bang when stopping,Any ideas is it the B&W which need grease or the axle in the fifth wheel Sounds like an old bed Can you suggest or confirm If I can use litium grease from Walmart in the jaws of the fifth wheel and anywhere on the fifth wheel thanks

I prefer Red and Tacky for grease. There is a grease zerk on the underside of the hitch head, and the rubber supports for the head should have some grease put on them. Also a little grease on the inside of the jaws where they contact the pin is a good idea. Is it a slider hitch? Have you checked the tightness of all the bolts?However, I think your problem lies with the trailer. You don't say what it is, what size it is, or how old it is, but I would be checking the suspension if I were you.

The first thing to do is to check all bolts and nuts on the hitch, the hitch attachment to the truck frame and the pin box on the trailer. These are connections that should be checked annually.Ken

White lithium goes on top of the rubber mounts that support the pivot head. Regular grease gun suspension/bearing type grease is for the jaw surface that contacts the king pin. It is also used on the ONE and ONLY grease zerk on the bottom side of the pivoting head. Thats it!!!

You need someone to stand beside your rig and try moving back and forth to see if you can duplicate the sound. You can't solve it from the cab of the truck. Had problems like this before with my old hitch. It was the mounting bolts in the hitch to the frame of the truck. My new Ford has the puck system and a B&W hitch. There is no noise from the B&W

Can you tell where noise is at, trailer or hitch?I would start by checking springs, spring shackles, shackle straps, and spring perches.
