Crossroads Cruise Aire CR-25RL

Hi All,

I am new to RV.NET and am looking at buying our first RV. My wife and I
attended a recent RV show in the area looking at all the options with an open mind. We were seriously considering a 30ft class A before the show but after looking at everything, we really like the layout of the Crossroads CR-25RL fifth wheel. We weren't going to make an emotional decision and buy it on the spot, but we really did like what we saw. When we got home and starting looking on line at various reviews and user forums we became concerned about the quality of the Crossroads products. I would really like to hear from folks that own or have owned Crossroads fifth wheels and get some input, both negative and positive. Is this a product that is going to be reliable and does the company stand behind the product with quality support. I feel like not many people take the time to post positive reviews about products and usually only post things when there are problems and maybe that's why the majority of what I see about Crossroads is so negative. Again, I would really appreciate any first hand owner experiences folks would like to share.

Thanks in advance,
  • I bought a 15 a couple years ago. At month 14, a tire snapped all the lugnuts and departed the unit through the sidewall. Long story short, I found that there was a recall on the exact model, for the same thing only one year off mine. I called CR to have them reimburse me for my damage and change the other three hubs. Had to fight tooth and nail with them but they finally covered. When I picked up my unit, I showed the Service Manager a seam that kept separating even after I re calked it. He kept the unit in and did tests that Lippert recommended. It failed so they opened it up. Found that CR failed to put lumber in the channels on the trailer base that the connecting lag bolts go through. This caused the bolts to bend and snap. The separation caused damage that had to repair. The repairing shop, and the extended warrantee came to the same conclusion. CR refuses to acknowledge any fault. Not through with CR or the extended warrantee program.

    I suggest another brand.
  • Larry,handye9 and Mike,
Thanks for your timely reply, your input is greatly appreciated and we will take all of it into consideration when making our decision.
  • I ordered a cruiser in the spring of 15 and have had a great unit. Have had absolutly no trouble with it at all and I think it's a great unit for its price point
  • You're correct in assuming folks don't spend much time writing positive reviews, and, while reading all the negative reviews, think about what exactly is being said. Many bad reviews are more toward dealers than they are towards manufacturers. The dealers are a liaison between the customers and manufacturers, and a first line for warranty repairs.

RV's require a lot of routine and preventative maintenance. There are folks who either don't know how, or, just don't realize what it takes to own an RV. Doesn't matter who built the unit, if it is not maintained, it will become unreliable, in a short time.

Travel trailers and fifth wheels don't have shocks, air ride, or motor vehicle type tires and don't ride as smooth as a motor home. Caulking will crack, plumbing fixtures, nuts and bolts, and screws can, and will come loose, through no fault of the manufacturer. You'll still see bad reviews about some of these things.
  • I've owned two CR units, each for 7 yrs. Both were ok quality and a good value. Had to switch to a toyhauler due to my wife's health. Quality in just about every RV is terrible these days and across the price range. Demand is up and quality is down. When it comes to fixing problems, dealer support with good techs is critical. As for manufacture support, CR has gotten worse compared to years ago, but they are certainly not alone.

You might consider a used unit initially where there is no expectation of warranty support from dealer or manufacturer and the previous owner has fixed the big issues. Units built in 2011 and earlier were built when the RV industry was building lower volumes.
