mark5w, we solved the switch access by removing the cabinet door. It only looks goofy till you start using the switches, then it looks lovely. :)
OP, our Cruiser is 10 years old. It has held up well. It's not an Airstream, but it's pretty well built. We toured the factory last year. They are assembled the same way all the other brands are. But their engineering and materials seem to be somewhat better than average. We would strongly consider another one if we were in the market.
