Fact, not doubtful at all. The maximum rated tire pressure for the aluminum rims on my TT are clearly marked on the inside of the wheels. The tire must be removed from the rim to access this information.
Just because in your one instance, the info was in an obscure location doesn't make that location the rule. A much larger sample is needed to establish a norm. A sample of one is not a sample, it is an anomily.
