We have traveled that area for decades. Over the years we have many times stayed in the Amarilo RV Ranch Park, either of the two RV Parks in Lamar, Colorado and sometimes, when just overnight we have stayed in the Lamar Truck Stop on the north edge of Lamaron US 287/US 50. The truck stop has such a large parking lot that any RV can stay overnight at least 100 yards from the nearest parked trucks. We would be happy to stay at any of these again, and certainly will.
We believe the best route from Dallas/Ft Worth to Colorado Springs (for us at least after traveling all of them) is US 287 to Lamar, Colorado then US 50 to Pueblo, Colorado, then I-25 to Colorado Springs.
We also sometime travel US 287 to US 24 then US 24 to Colorado Springs. Either way is easy with nor passes such as Raton, or US 40 inot New Mexico.
