Dealer ???

Unsavory? I would avoid even if it meant saving a little money. The likelihood of it being well prepared before you arrive would be in question. And the likelihood of getting every thing you find wrong taken care of in a timely manner would also be a concern.

I would expect exactly what I ordered at the absolute best price.

We live in Minnesota and bought our last RV in Indiana. We had a good dealer and they spent a long time going over all the systems with us. The other thing we did was to go to a near by camp ground and used the rig for a few days. We had a few things to go back to the dealer with and some questions on things we needed a better understanding.

X2. Don't bother with that dealer.

We bought our new Keystone Alpine from the cheapest dealer which was 200 mi from home. Had some bad reviews but again the price was unbeatable. We put $500 deposit by credit card and picked it up 4 days later. Basically did paperwork, pdi, backed under it, hitched and beat feet out of there. Had warranty work twice in first year at a local Keystone approved repair facility about 40 mi from home and no other problems in the last (second) year. Getting ready for CA to Niagara Falls trip. After the factory warranty has expired we saw no need for dealer patriotism and good manufacturers will stand behind their product which Keystone did for us.

we had found a trailer with a floorplan we liked, but Montana was phasing it out and all I could find was a few holdovers and none of them close. I finally found one at a (gasp!) Camping World in Arkansas, further than I wanted to go. BUT, I called a Camping World in Columbia, Mo. three hours away and ask them if they have the model and year we were looking for. Of course they said no, but could probably find one, which they did, but they wouldn't tell me where. I asked for pictures and compared them to the ones on the CW lot in Arkansas, surprise they are the same. Started talking numbers with CW in Missourri and found out they match any other dealers price, but it has to be apples to apples, same model, equipment, etc. While beating the internet I found a trailer in Western Iowa that was identical, but had a hideous color scheme inside and they wanted to sell it bad and the price reflected that. After CW in Columbia verified the dealer really had the trailer for the price I told them they had to agree to match it. I will say they lowballed me on the old trade but the money they had to take off the top of their unit more than evened things out. I've seen a lot of complaints about CW, but overall we are happy. They are only 3 hours away and we did take the trailer back for a few small warranty repairs, and their shop guys seem to be pretty good. Maybe we just got lucky?

We were in exact same situation last year. I'm not a firm believer in dealer support. But it depends on how much work you can and are willing to do yourself. We have brand new fifth wheel that I have had to do some fixes on that others would insist on dealer warranty. I would much rather do them in my driveway than drop off and wait for shoddy workmanship. THAT is the reason we purchase cheapest over 1000 miles away and weren't worried about dealer. We saved thousands doing it including the week long vacation to pick it up. But to each their own.

Borderline? It's out-and-out fraud; bait 'n switch, for sure. I might still be tempted, but I'd put it in writing which exact RV I was buying. Anything different and the cops would be called, along with the AG's office of consumer fraud.
