Dealer blew me off!! Now calling back.

I know I am of a minority as a shopper but I don't haggle. I think it can be insulting and a waste of time. It seems the OP lost six weeks. I'll ask prices while looking for the model we like but no further. When we found the toy hauler we liked I told the salesman "I wanted the lowest out the door price he could give me. I don't haggle and don't make offers. I am serious and will just continue shopping." I had figured the amount I wanted to spend. After several
minutes "talking to the manager" he came back with a lower price than I would of offered. It works for me I think because they don't know where I'm coming from. They understand they don't get a second chance at a serious buyer. The papers were filled out and I picked up the trailer in a few days after they checked out the unit. I don't have the patience "shadow boxing" over price and find out hours or days later that no agreement can be made. Maybe I could get a lower deal but I figure if a price is agreeable to both parties, the model is what we want, the dealer makes a buck so he can afford to service any problems of a new trailer, why waste time...After touring the lots for a couple days I told the wife by 5:00pm we would have a trailer. We left the office at closing time. "Daylight's burnin'"......Just an opinion of a crabby old shopper...

Shop around for exactly what you want.

Find the best deal - and order it.

It will ready for you in the spring.

Of course, *if* the dealer wants to beat/match your price, you can decide which one better suits your situation..;)

I don't like to haggle either and I think its a waste off both of our time to do it.

I figure out a price I would pay minus 15%. I find three available vehicles in the area I would purchase and prioritize them based on the options that are important to me. I go to the dealer who has the vehicle I want the most and shoot the sales man straight right from the get go. I make the offer and tell him if he accepts it I will buy today. Usually they say no and I thank them for thier time. I will then ask them to give me their best out the door price in writing good for 24 hours. I then tell them I have two more vehicles to look at and if their price is the best I will be back to purchase.

Usually at this point I get their best price and has always been an acceptable price within my price range. I have never had to look at option two. Half hour at the most and we are doing the paperwork.

So here's the deal, if I needed that new fifth wheel a month and a half ago I'd have it in my driveway now. I'm in NO hurry and just looking but have narrowed it down to the one I want.

All these dealers advertise all over the Internet now and many need to do a better job at handling the leads they get whether it be a phone call or email. My last three were all bought when I drove to the dealer and looked at them in person and purchased pretty quick after. With all the pics online and dealers asking you to email them there is no reason to drive hours to get your search started.

If I ask you to go to your boss and get your best deal and you say ok, I'll call tomorrow and it's 45 days later???? Remember I'm in no hurry, it's the end of the year catching up with them not me. This is a 2015 that they want sold by end of year, I looked for the 2014's they are pretty much gone.

I think the end of the year is catching up with BOTH the dealer and you.

I like Jerrybo66's adult approach of arriving at a sale price. That is basically the same attitude I have at arriving at a done deal.

DW and I do the same as Jerrybo66. I buy the TV and have a good relationship with the local Chevy salesman. If it's close to what I think is fair, I go for it. DW usually buys the TT/FW. Once she finds the specific one she wants, she has a range that she realistically wants to spend. If it is close, she closes the deal. That's just the way we do it because we don't like games or hassle. YMMV.

It boils down to the fact that it is your money. Decide on a price with a reasonable trade allowance. tell the dealer that you will give hims XXXXX dollars out the door. Do not forget to allow for taxes and registration fess.

We bought several trailers that we simply gave the dealer a this is my best offer and I am ready to write a check right now for this amount.

But you need to do your home work and see what wholesale is on the trade and allow the dealer ot make some profit on bothe RVs.

The salesmen knows he put you in the "driver's seat" on price when he called you back after so much time.

Do some research online and try to figure out what is the absolute cheapest you could buy that unit for nationwide. Once you get that figure I would offer him 5% or 10% less plus maybe a couple add-ons to boot. After that the only negotiating I would do would be to drop the add-ons.

The secret now with this guy, in my opinion, is not to draw out a long back and forth negotiation. Force him to either meet your terms quickly or sit on the unit through the off season and be stuck with it.
