Problem is...getting an honest and accurate MSRP. We shopped 3 states for our present rig. Probably 10 different dealers and they all had a different MSRP for the exact same rig, equipped identically.

One dealer can have a high msrp a accept 40%+ off while another dealer will quote a lower msrp and give you 30% off.

What counts is the bottom line you drive away with.

The dealer should have an MSRP sheet like the one in the photos from this dealer who posts them on his web site, Sunset Trail SF270BH. Ask the dealer to see it.

As someone who HATES negotiating, I approached it by finding out what the "wholesalers" charge and then going local with a ballpark figure in my head for what I was after. Took about a week between 2 local dealers and I got the price I was after (which, actually beat the "wholesaler" price):

I was at a dealer today and the salesman showed me a printout that was certainly not a manufacturer's document. The listed printout showed the MSRP at $10,000 more than the exact same unit had listed at a sale last fall. That way the sale price today was just that much better. I guess they think we can't remember anything. Same salesman again didn't make the sale.

there is no dealer that would show you what he realy paid for it, that would not be in his favor, dealers print up what ever they like.. dealer cost $100k and on sale for $72k ,make any sense ?? go with the 35% off there sticker .you can adjust the price in neg.

as others have noted, with some brands dealers can makeup the MSRP sheets .... I find it interesting to take a look a the manufacture's website .... if they have an area with a spec sheet where you can go to and come up with an MSRP, I know the one I see at a dealership is probably factory generated .... to me, the only number I want to know is what it is going to cost me .... I don't care how they come up with that number .... if its one I'm willing to pay, the only decision left is do I buy it .... if its one I'm not willing to pay, I walk

As much as I'd rather trust people, don't believe anything a salesperson tells you.

The RV industry does not have the same 'big gov.' laws on them as does the consumer auto industry, so there really isn't a factual sheet like for cars. A dealer does know how much a unit cost them, but it'll vary depending on transport costs, etc. Each one does have a cost though, a sales person must make a commission, and a dealership must make a profit, so don't expect to get one at a loss (UNLESS they have some other business related reason to get rid of it right away!).

It all really boils down to negotiating and what both sides will be comfortable with. I've purchased seven RV/trailers over the years and have realized that what I personally want is reasonable/good(not super) value and great quality & reliability. I'll also get up and leave if someone says they've got to 'talk to their manager', hands me off to someone else who tries to jack the price up with extras. or makes me wait more than ten minutes for some bs reason.

Finally, I always, ALWAYS, insist on performing as thorough an inspection as I can. This includes slides in and out, water in tanks & pressurized with no leaks, everything operating, etc. If they tell me they won't let me do it for some lame reason then I won't buy.

When I was looking to buy my current trailer I went to 3 different shows that all had my unit... All 3 were almost identical with a few minor differences and were all over the board with MSRP.... not even close.. Do your homework... Spend time surfing the web , calling , you name it!...
