First let me say that I have been reading and following this topic as well as the previous one that was shut down. Thanks for providing me with a lot of good information.
I am expecting delivery of a 2009 34RLQS in mid August. Looking forward to this upgrade from our existing Prowler Travel Trailer. I decided to jump into this topic now as some of the discussion is dealing with the heat wave we are experiencing now. First, the unit I ordered will have the duel pane windows...I think I will be happy with these.
Now, a word of caution for anyone getting the second air conditioner. The storage facility where I plan on keeping my trailer has 13 foot overhead doors. Actually 13 foot 1/2 inch. The problem comes from the fact that the Jayco Designer is an extreamly high trailer with the Coleman air conditioner. The 2008 model is 157inches or 13ft 1 in. The 2009 model is 159 inches (13ft 3in)due to the new frame they are putting on the Designer. Needless to say the trailer will not fit into the storage unit.
Anyway, the dealer and I are looking for a low profile AC unit that will give me the necessary clearence. The original AC unit is 13 inches high. Colemans low profile AC is 10.63 inches, Dometic is 9.5 inches, and Carrier is 7.5 inches. They all seem to price within $100 of each other.
Personally I think I would like to go with the Carrier unit so I would be I could keep the trailer as low as possible. Anyone have any thoughts on which AC I should go with...anyone with major problems with the Carrier unit?
Does anyone have a 2009 Designer with the second AC unit...have you measured it, and is it actually 159 inches?
Thanks for all your help through these topics. By the way, Jayco told me that they are considering a forum of their own this fall. May keep us from having such long topic and we can stay on more general issues here with RV net.
