You bring up good points. Price,weight and the fact there is no tank to share with are all factors. Diesel maybe louder as well. Overall demand is low for onboard gensets. 90% of 5th wheels do not have a genset.
Propane and gas are simply cheaper options. The onboard genset option is very expensive using gas or propane as the fuel source. Diesel only inflates the price even more without a lot of additional benefit.
Nevertheless I imagine you could get a unit with the generator prep option and install an after market diesel genset
