There are lots of different ways to approach the genset issue for a fiver.
You can mount it in the truck, you can use portables,You can get rig with generator prep and install after market.
For convenience use none of the above methods will beat a built in propane set up.
Just push a button and there is instant power. There is lp already in use so there is no additional fuel to deal with. No set up,no gas tanks,no fumes.
The biggest draw back to propane is fuel consumption. For a convenience user that is generally not an issue. Convenience users may use their gensets frequently, but generally don't run them for long periods of time.
Furthermore RV gensets may have a lot of downtime between use particularly in the off season. Propane is clean and doesn't gunk things up. For this reason they are very reliable even after sitting for long periods.
Again there are lots of options, but if convenience is your goal propane can't be beat.
If price is your biggest concern portables will always be cheaper but they will require the most work.
If you plan to run genset for long periods a portable gas genset is certainly a viable option.
If you don't want to deal with a lot of set up, mounting genset in truck is also an option. None of the option listed above are as convenient as a built in lp genset but again none are as expensive either.
