It was and still is...it's called gravity and that didn't stop because you got a DRW.
If you had that "feeling" with the SRW then you had the brake controller set wrong.
As said time and time again, and refuted here as many times, THE TRUCK brakes stop the truck and the TRAILER brakes stop the trailer...same goes for slowing down. (IN TYPICAL DRIVING SITUATIONS.)
To the OP...wider stance = more stability. Pound for pound.
