Direct TV or Dish network

We recently sold our motorhome and now have a 5th wheel. With the motorhome we had Dish. The satellite went with the motorhome but we kept the 2 receivers. We purchased a Winegard carryout from Camping World. With 2 TVs in the 5th wheel they advise to go with Direct TV as we can watch separate programs where if we remain with Dish if I were watching a program on say channels 1-50 she would have to watch something on channels 51-100 (as an example). Apparently with Direct TV this is not a problem?
If we go with Direct tv I would sell the Dish receivers. If anyone has some advice on this I would appreciate it.
Thank you

  • To provide a little more clarity to the answer provided to the OP, with Dish there are two satellites used for the SD (standard definition) channels. The Winegard you have can only point at one of those at a time, therefore, the second TV in your RV can only tune to a different channel IF it happens to be broadcast from the same satellite.

DirecTV has all its SD channels on one satellite (101)so the Winegard can receive them all without re-positioning itself. Therefore, each TV can watch a different channel without the antenna needing to change satellites.
  • With two Direct receivers you can watch any program, within your subscription, at any location in the RV, without limitation.

    Hope this helps.
