Disc Brake conversion?

While pricing the Kodiak kits I cannot determine what comes with the kit. Do I need to purchase the pump etc separate plus the tubing???

This months trailer life have a great article on disc conversion.Worth the read!

Does any one have an estimate for what it cost at a shop to have the disc brakes switched out....complete...brakes and installation ??????
I ment drums to disc brakes....

Does your controller have a manual over ride. That should be instant. Is it better when using the manual?

Simple physics eliminates the lines as the source of delay. Regardless of any flex or expansion in the lines this would be taken up in a few millisecs of applying pressure. Any possible expansion in the lines would make up a tiny fraction of the amount of brake fluid used to move the actual actuators. The delay can only occur in the pump or controller. Problem is it is extremely difficult to replicate when standing still. You can hear the pump winding up when the breakaway is pulled or the brakes applied however there is no way to determine when maximum pressure is realized just by listening to it. We even had the Titan system designer come and look at when we were near the factory in IL and he thought it was the controller but couldn't prove it. When driving you can't hear the pump so cannot tell when it winds up in response to the brakes being applied. It would take significant test equipment in a live environment to test and we never seem to be anywhere near anyone who has this capability.

We just did a disc brake conversion on our 36' fiver using Kodiak disc brakes, the Hydrastar brake actuator and Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake control last month.

The difference is truly staggering. Ironically, within a month after doing the conversion we were in a really close near-miss rear ender when a car cut us off and then stopped right in front of us.

If it weren't for those brakes, we'd have had a really bad accident.

BTW we haven't noticed any delay when applying the brakes...

I have a US BrakeRite/Titan with zero delay. Put a pressure gage in line and pull the brakeaway switch to eliminate the controler for testing purposes.

My Carlisle is loud enough to hear when it's building up pressure. I wouldn't have bolted it tight to the 5er frame if I would have known how loud it is but that's beside the point. Can you hear when the Titan starts to make pressure and determine if it's controller delay or something else?
FWIW to the guys who haven't done it yet... I don't know if flex lines can cause delay cuz of the stretching but most of the line kits I saw while I was shopping had ridiculous lengths of hoses to cover even the longest RVs. Guys were saying not to use flex lines and to use 1/4" steel instead of 3/16", if possible, so I did.
I will stay with the 3/16" steel if I ever do another one cuz doing it in 1/4 steel was more hassle than I think it was worth. It's next to impossible to find reducing brake fittings and when I did, the prices were thru the roof so I silver soldered my own custom fittings together. Craig
