No liability. Assuming that means if someone slips on your steps and falls on a small child holding a puppy, you'll get sued. It's a very rare occasion when anyone other than I is at my trailer door.

Our insurance company told us the same thing: the truck liability extends to the towed vehicle.

In Texas, the truck's liability policy covers the trailer.

We have "Full" coverage on our 5'er including Liability. You never know when someone will slip and fall inside or on someone like 2oldman stated above. In our opinion we would rather pay a little now for the "Peace of Mind" later. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!

Yes, your auto policy generally extends to liability insurance to trailers that are being towed. Where it gets sketchy is when the trailer is unhooked. There can be significant exposure when your trailer is not attached to the tow vehicle. Your chocking could fail and the trailer roll into something or someone. The previously mentioned injury to someone on the steps or inside the trailer is another possibility. Fire could spread to neighboring rigs. Winds could blow the awning off and it could injure a bystander. Are those things likely to happen? No. But could you financially withstand the hit should the unlikely come to pass? You need to explore the options with your insurance agent. And if you don't have coverage when unhooked, I would spend the couple of hundred a year for peace of mind.

Now that we are not FT...NO liability on trailer Ins.

I took out an umbrella liability policy with my insurance carrier that covers me for any liability for any lawsuit.

So I just returned form the ins company today to change my insurance from my old TT to my new TT and to clarify (again) what is covered and when;

The tow vehicle liability insurance covers the TT WHILE it is connected to the tow vehicle only. Tow vehicle collision and comp are not extended to the TT.

When the TT is unhooked NONE of the tow vehicle insurance covers the TT.

So I always get TT insurance to cover collision/comp when hooked to the TV and liability/comp/collision when it is unhooked. It only costs $180/year and worth it.

My home-owners insurance actually covers that scenario.
