I will put my awning out when I get back to FL. for the winter 9/19/14 and won't roll it back up until 5/1/15.
I use 2 deflappers on each side. 2 tie downs with the springs for tension.
Enough tilt for rain light or heavy to roll off.
In the last 15 years of doing that I have only rolled it up twice. Once for Wilma that snapped the roll off from the end cap while rolled up. And last time I rolled it up, was a false alarm on a hurricane coming close to the area.
It does face the east and has still been hit with some gust up to 40-45 MPH with no problem.
