Hi,I was talking about doing this a while ago but didnt know where to start, although I flat tow my samurai behind mine because of the weight, I would like to carry it in the back from time to time. could you pm me and let me know what the cost of adding that 3rd axle. and also are you having it done at lippert in rialto? Thanks, Lance
Once I get it done I will add it all up.
Still got get the fender flares worked out so it will look factory.
I had some other work done also so gotta take that out also.
I had thought about trying to flat tow the samurai behind the toyhauler. I would need to get my commercial CDL and the endorsement for doubles.
Any pics of how you set up the reciever hitch on the toy hauler ?
What brakes system are you running in the samurai when you tow doubles ?
I measured it out to tow doubles with a samurai and it would be right near the max of 65' combined length. Towing doubles would be nice to have as an option.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but adding the third axle won't do much to solve your problem. The full water tanks, fuel, and options really cut down the payload of your Toyhauler. I would also get the recommendations of Lippert before proceeding and make sure Eclipse signs off on it.
no worries, you are not raining on anything. Research phase is over... we are even done with production... a few cosmetics and this thing is done.
I like opinions and had asked for them awhile back, on adding a third axle, from the RV.net.... a lot of bad information, opinions on why a person should not do it, and what problems it could cause. Only a very few, on the forum, said it could be done and they had seen a third axle added to a trailer. The forum gave me a good list of questions and concerns to ask when I went to the local trailer repair shops and to Lippert.
After getting mixed reviews on the forum and asking a couple of local trailer repair shops (who said it could be done). I went to Eclipse who directed me to Lippert. I decided to have all the work done directly at Lippert and Eclipse instead of using a local trailer shop.
According to Lippert, adding a third axle is the EXACT way to solve this particular weight distibution problem.
ALL my work is being done directly by Lippert and Eclipse. Only work I am doing on this project is going to be taking some pictures.
When I asked Lippert (once again directly from them) - adding a third axle will NOT hurt anything, it will only help in distibuting the weight. The only downsides, according to them, will be going through toll roads that charge by the axle and the cost of tires when buying 6 new ones vs 4 new ones. This is the best way to distribute the weight and will actually increase payload (which isn't really needed in my case but nice to know). I was told adding another 6000lb axle will NOT increase payload by that much but it would give the ability to easily handle another couple thousand pounds. The week link in weight issues is the axles/springs. Since I was running right at capaicty before it will be be nice to know I now have a cushion.
My 13' long Samurai fills the 12'9" cargo area so I couldn't fit anything else if I wanted too.

_ - bradley0128ExplorerOkay, I'm replying to my own posting several pages back and a few above.
1. Nice job on that HDMI/TV install!
2. My height is 12'9" to top of A/C units....claimed 13 ft, so I'm very happy having more clearance
3. I have a 42 ft rig w/ 5500 Onan that came with 2 A/C units, but wish I had a third for the garage
4. My 02 F250 has approx 4" lift and height-wise sit perfect w/ the truck and bout 5.5" clearance over bedsides on stock height camper suspension.
5. Prices....I searched forever online and found a company I cannot recall now that will email you a price estimate for what you want. They sell at a couple grand over cost. They are in SoCal. The guy and funcarsandtrucks.com will also sell you a new one at a couple grand over cost. Now, on cost... I bought mine as a used repo off a dealer lot in San Diego. The were asking 60k, on "sale" for 50k. We offered 40k and they took it. The build sheet was in the camper. It cost $44k from the factory, but retailed about $78k. Ridiculous! Google search and find that company that sells just over cost. They replied the day after we bought our repo w/ a quote of $48k for a fully loaded F420TXSG....42 ft w/ 14 garage and every possible option.
6. Axle alignment. I was told by a good RV shop manager in Oroville to get mine aligned. He suggests it to everyone. They are welded on a jig in the factory, but it is far from exact....this leads me to my tire story
7. I thought my alignment was way out of whack and chewing tires. My unit had one tire already replaced on the original owner. I had a tire wear 4"x12" patch on the outside part of the tread. The guys at Discount Tire said that is caused by tread separation, which is very common on Goodyear Marathon tires. He said they were terrible tires. Here's the kicker. My unit is a 2010. The tires were a matched production set....from 2007! Also, this is common as a manufacturer will purchase a crapload and used them over time. Well, I have two more tires that are appearing the same. I did get the one replaced w/ a tire warranty I bought extra w/ the camper. I'm going to try w/ the other two. Bastards are $180 each! The tire guy suggested Green Ball tires, which I got and am liking. I've still not aligned it.
Now, I posted asking pin box questions and no one replied. I found out from Lippert myself. Mine came with the medium length pinbox. Lippert said any length factory Lippert box is fine. So, I replaced my stock med. box w/ a long Mor/Ryde box. Wow, does it make a difference! I'm very happy with it. I also, simultaneously, removed the Popup gooseneck adaptor and installed a B&W Companion fifth wheel hitch. That, too, made a huge difference. What a wonderful piece of engineering that is! I highly suggest it over any other I've seen. A buddy of mine has a Reese....a clunk o junk! In addition the the above, I also installed Trailair Equaflexes....and love them! So much less jostling of stuff in the camper. It does pull like a whole different rig! I did have to use longer, 3 1/8 instead of 2 1/2 inch, shackles, to keep it at the same height.
That also leads me to a griping point with Mor/Ryde. I ordered the set of heavy duty greasable shackles and brass bushings for a stock/equaflex triple axle trailer. The set come missing two entire shackle assemblies! I ordered mine from Makarios in IN. I called them right away. They contacted Mor/Ryde (MR) and MR then immediately shipped me the missing pieces. But! the odd part is they were not accidentally missing from my box....they just don't come with them. Of course, no where on MR site or anywhere can you find parts info on the kit. You order it on faith. During the ordeal, I was forwarded an email from MR w/ a parts list and schematic so I could positively identify what was missing and needed. The list showed the number of pieces included....which was two assemblies short. Crazy! Why is this parts schematic not available to the public on MR's site? Or with the kit listings on any store's websites? The RV industry is crappy altogether, with a few gems around. If the american auto industry functioned the same, we'd have nothing but foreign cars. The manufacturers better hope the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese do not decide to take on the RV market!!!!!
Sorry for the rambling rant there. Anyone feel free to respond with questions.
My question I want to post: Anyone added a third A/C unit? How? Where to run the wires? - RacormanExplorer

My toyhauler is rated to carry 3960lbs BUT I am having problems with a 3000lb vehicle in my toyhauler.
Not due to the amount of weight but due to the location of the weight.
I can't get my vehicle far enough forward to get the weight over both axles so it is mostly postioned above the rear axle.

Looking to see how much over stock mine has been lifted. I am perfectly level when hooked up to the truck now. Guessing I am about 5-6" over stock.

Nice..... any photos of the lift?
Here is a "before" pic. Don't have any after Equa-Flex yet, hopefully I can sort out some other stuff and I will have pics in the next couple of weeks.
I am already spring over here in this pic but no Trailair Equa-Flex.
