I recently installed a second AC in my fiver.The trailer originally was built with 30 AMP service. I added a second 20 AMP electric source on the side near the front bedroom.I purchased a 50' 10Ga 20 AMP extension cord to attach to the power pole at campgrounds. Now I am questioning what I will do if the campground only has 50 and 30 AMP service.Does anyone know of a dogbone adapter that could plug into a 50 AMP service and "Y" off into two other outlets, one 30 AMP and one 20 AMP ? I would prefer a moulded unit that is weather proof rather than attempting to make one myself.Thanks.

So far I have never seen a site without a 20 amp outlet. :)

A guy here in El Paso did the same thing using the pigtail 2oldman posted the link too. He is pleased so far without any issues.

I built something similar but better. used a male 50 amp plug, two 30 amp female pigtails with aluminum box connecting it all. can either use 30/20 adapter in one or can select side of 50 amp that has best juice.bumpy

The adapter on Amazon looks like what I am needing. But the price is a bittough to deal with...Can anyone offer a less expensive solution ?

Well personally for me it would need to be a NEMA approved for outdoor use box, right at the power post, anywhere within the trailer creates a potential area for fire!
The issue isn't normal draw, it is if there is a issue within the AC unit, and it shorts out, then your 10 gauge wire now needs to suport 50AMPS of power that is available from the circuit breaker in the Power Post.
This is why I love having a 50AMP service in our 5er, every thing I use is strong enough to protect the wiring and dog bones.

that issue comes up every time somebody talks about using a 30 amp cord (or 15/20) off a dogbone 50 amp outlet, that the cord is not protected if something happens in the RV but that issue is usually dismissed.

The only time you'll need the $150 adapter is when there is only 50a service.

No so... If I go to a campground with 50 and 30, then I can use my 50 to 30 adapter to get the 30 my trailer needs, but I still need a separate 30 to 20 adapter for the second air conditioner.

Making one myself would be an option, but then I don't have a watertight electrical connection.

I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, But in this case I don't want to be either. :E

That is a 15 AMP adapter. A 20 AMP adapter is a different configuration.

don't know how to do a clicky but go to camping world on line and put in part# 69605 $4.29 works fine I use one when needed

We stay in a park the winter that is just 30 amp. I run a 20 amp cord through a slide out to run our toaster and space heater. They work much better than running it off the trailer with everything else. Bonus, meter doesn't spin when they running on 20 amp!

I am sure that doesn't have a UL label on it and likely a violation of the NEC!! Feeding a device designed for 20 AMPs without a 20 AMP protection device up stream is a disaster waiting to happen! Worst place to have an electrical fire in the AC unit in the bedroom!! :S

The 50 AMP to 30 AMP dog bones relies on the main breaker in the converter.
