Door seperation

The outside material on the outside door of my fifth wheel is separating from whatever the core material is. The outside covering that is separating is maybe 1/32nd or 1/16th of an inch thick and appears to be fiberglass(?) material. It is brittle along the edge. The only place this seems to be a issue is on the hinge side of the door which conveniently is also the edge that will catch air when pulled down the road. Any advice on a product I can put on the edge to alleviate air from getting under it or some other repair that may fix the issue without door replacement. The remainder of the door is in good shape. It appears that the edge molding at one time would have covered the edge but due to only a small amount of the material going behind the molding it pops right back out.
  • Newmar fixed my door. Caused by water leaking around the lock. Removed the outer layer of metal. Replaced several wood reinforcement boards on the inside, replaced the foam insulation, used glue to fasten, used the old metal seal to make it finished. You could do the same procedure if you can find the external strips. Mine looks perfect. Check for any source of H2O.

    Happy Trails.
  • it's likely filon fiberglass and would require door removal to do it right, however an alternate route would be to use a thin strip of aluminum diamondplate as a trim strip. On both sides of door so it will match well. It can be either glued on or use small self tapping screws
  • I am only guessing but it sounds like the glue has separated on the inside. Most are only a shell with Styrofoam in the center. Perhaps water damage inside of the door?? Unless you have some way to remove the door, get glue in between and then press it until glue sets, I don't know of another way other than replacing the door.
