We are planning our Alaska trip for this year. But to my great disappointment I heard we wouldn't be able to tow our motorcycle with us? Does any one know the truth of this? We have a fifth wheel and tow our motorcycle trailer all around the states. I guess the rule is because the way a fifth wheel rv hooks up to a truck, it is considered an extension of the truck. So towing the motorcycle trailer ,( i.e. our "toy Box") is not against the law,(in most states);). But I heard we wouldn't be allowed to do so in Canada? Can anyone verify that for me? You can double tow in Alberta and Sask. But in BC you can not double tow.sorry about that.It dew to the mountains and the hair pin curves in the road.

If your State allows double towing then there shouldn't be any problem. All the States and Provinces have reciprocity agreements that allow you operate your vehicles in their state or province as long as you are legal in your home state or province. The only caveat is that you can not exceed the total length limit of the jurisdiction that you're in. For example, here in Ontario, total length of your setup can not exceed 75 feet. Because British Columbia has government run auto insurance, their rules may be different so you may have to look into that but I doubt if you will have any problems.

Yup, don't double-tow in B.C.

Don't tow overweight either ... enforcement authorities conduct random safety checks which include a check of your paperwork.

We also passed a safety check in Yukon in June 2012; they were stopping all northbound traffic at the junction of the Cassiar & Alaska Highways. Our trailer had an upper clearance light out, but other than that there were no issues. Insurance & registration were checked, along with a look over, under and all around.

You are Ok to double tow in Alberta but in BC you need to be over 11000KG to be OK....read commercial

How did you come up with that?:h You better check the laws in the states for double towing, it is illegal in some states.

How about getting a front mounted hitch receiver on the front of your truck. I have seen a few bikes and motorcycles mounted on the front of trucks.

It is illegal to double tow in Florida, too. Seems like the OP has luckily avoided tickets there, too. BTW, some people dispute the Fla law even when they have been shown the statutes prohibiting double towing for non-commercial vehicles.

Mark's link on regulations noted it might be out-of-date, and suggested going to the Canadian RV Dealers association. Which points out that two trailers is not allowed in the NWT and NU, which combined with it not being allowed in BC certainly finishes off the idea.

Plus a bunch of locations that allow two trailer restrict the 2nd trailer to a boat-trailer.
If my foggy memory is working, Alberta restricts the 2nd trailer to a boat.

And YES; reciprocity does not over double-towing, motorcycle helmets, etc.
