Going back to the actual regulations I still cannot find anything saying it is prohibited, but given the lack of people doing it and this in the driver's handbook ..... I would assume this is going to get you a ticket and hauled off the road.
Unless someone has more money than sense and fights it. The drivers' handbook down here is NOT law, even though they may think it is. If the LEO or even prosecutor can't provide a proper, and exact, citation prohibiting doubles, then it is legal.
