Educate me why GM 1 ton towing capacity is so much less

my 2016 dually unloaded sits lower than a single rear wheel of the same year. my truck trailer combo sit very level when loaded, however I have seen the 2017 drw are now taller than my truck.

My new dually does sit a little higher than my 15 GMC did, a little over an inch if I remember correctly. It certainly is not level as the rear definitely sits higher but doesn't squat much when hooked up to the Excel, which has about 3100 pounds of hitch weight. I have the camper package and 17" tires are standard on a dually.

Overall they are taller and the Excel does sit a bit nose high but just a little more than it did with the GMC. I'm having the MorRyde independent suspension install on the Excel the first of next month. Part of the process is leveling the trailer to the truck.

Actually the 20" are .9" in dia larger. So about 1/2" taller.

A couple of observations about the Ford trucks: I have always noticed the Ford trucks are rarely towing any brand of fiver level. The Fords look to set higher, many have 20" wheels, and the beds are deep. All contributing to the fiver riding nose high.

im not going too far into this, I had VERY bad tranny luck with a 95 dodge ctd, actually had sworn them off but decided to look. No, I did not try one with the aisin and 4:10 as nobody in new England area had a drw on the lot with it and I wasn't ordering a truck. Now if I had time when I purchased I might ordered one, but I have no regrets buying my ford.

Did you test drive one with the Aisin and 4.10? If so, why did the medium duty tranny scare you off?

not sure about the 17+ super duty but I know in 16 the only way to get the heated steering wheel was with the platinum. also the lariat had a different type of leather, not bad as my 2011 lariat wore nicely, but my 16 has more of a saddle type leather.

When I bought my truck I drove all 3 brands, and almost bought a ram, most likely I would have but the transmission drove me off. I am sure if it had the aisin I would have. I really recommend trying them all, I don't think you can go wrong with anyone of them.

Ride wise I found the Ford to be a tad rougher, even with only 60psi in the tires. And slightly louder under throttle. And seats were not quite as well padded as the Denali.

But driver functionality superiority is real, it's not just gimmicks and gadgets. Then I sat in a Platinum with the massaging seats. And I was sold.

Looks like I'm a Ford guy on my next truck.

And it made my 04 GMC Duramax Dually feel like a toy when I got back into it. What a difference in scale.

Confused on some options online. Camper package seems to add stiffer front springs on the DRW trucks. Why stiffer fronts? Seems like it would just hurt ride.

And from what I can see, massaging seats may not be available on Lariat package?

Same thing happened to me. The test drive just to check off the Ford didn't work out so well for my GM loyalty.

Don't hold me to it but I think the camper package only adds a rear sway bar and heavy duty front shocks to a dually as the springs are already upgraded. I think the ride on mine is significantly better than the 2015 GMC Denali dually I had, but that is subjective. You are right about the massaging seats. In the 17's they can only be had in a King Ranch or Platinum. The pricing on my KR was pretty close to the Platinum similarly equipped. Most Platinums had black interior and I really wanted the brown. I had decided to order to get what I wanted when mine popped up on a dealer website I visited regularly. It came in on a Thursday and I bought it on Friday.
