More comments from a GM engineer in a different video
Essentially he says GM is not building truck to tow heavier because there is no market for that truck.
They prefer to engineer their trucks to a lesser rating where there is actual demand vs. building to a higher rating that very few people actually need.

Which is really short-sighted of GM, but then that's been the norm for them for 100 years; always behind Ford on developments. Hell, they were several years behind Ford on offering 4x4 on 1/2 ton trucks and at least 20 years behind Ford on Crew Cabs. I'm a Bowtie Guy and love my D'max, but were I to go full-timing in a big FW, I'd have to jump right into a RAM. Basically, the same payload as the Freightliner Sport Chassis in a lot more handy package, and with 4x4 available. GM just doesn't cut it, though I've heard rumors that they're bringing back the Top Kick/Kodiak. It's a moot point with me, since I have no plans on full-timing or ever having a FW that large, so a 1T D'max will do me just fine. Personally, I'd love to drop my '02 body on an '07 3500 LBZ frame. Registers as an '02 here in AZ and only has to meet '02 emissions specs. :B
