Educate me why GM 1 ton towing capacity is so much less

than current 1 ton Dodge and Ford. I figure better to ask here than in a specific GM, Ford, or Dodge forum. The power ratings are now all pretty much on par, so why is the GM rated so much lowe...

If you google 2017 GMC Duramax vs Ram & Ford there are very interesting stories and movies of comparison. Every question and answer is there and quite interesting. I traded a 14 for a 17 and pulling 22,000 gooseneck and 19,000 fifth wheel . The MPG is about 1/10th MPG better than the 14 but the new ones drink DEF to meet the new emission standards.
